Troubleshooting guide for the Rhino plug-in of One Click LCA

Error during installation with .rhi installer

  • Update Rhino (in Rhino: Help -> Check for Updates -> Check Now)
  • Try installation again

Error when loading Rhino plug-in after manual install

  • Go to the location of the plugin files
  • Right-click into the .rhp file
  • Select 'Properties'
  • Click on the checkbox “unlock”

I cannot find the plug-in installer in the package manager

  • Update Rhino (in Rhino: Help -> Check for Updates -> Check Now)
  • Check the package manager again

Error loading plug-in after installing from the package manager: “command unknown” when launching plug-in


Check if the plug-in is enabled:

  • Write in the command bar “PlugInManager”
  • Search the plug-in One Click LCA
  • Check that the check box “enable” is selected

Rhino plug-in does not show up in Rhino, but there was no error shown during installation.

  • Open Rhino
  • Go to the installation folder:
    • Either: %APPDATA%\McNeel\Rhinoceros\<version>\Plug-ins\One Click LCA
    • Or: C:\Program Files\Common Files\McNeel\Rhinoceros\<version>\Plug-ins\One Click LCA
  • Click and drag the file “OneClickLCA_Rhino.rhp” into the Rhino viewport
  • The plug-in should be loaded now

Error uninstalling plug-in with the package manager

  • Go to the location of the plugin files and delete them manually:
    • Either: %APPDATA%\McNeel\Rhinoceros\<version>\Plug-ins\One Click LCA
    • Or: C:\Program Files\Common Files\McNeel\Rhinoceros\<version>\Plug-ins\One Click LCA
  • If you are not allowed to delete them by Windows, run the task manager to check that there are no other instances of Rhino running or restart your computer and then delete the files.

Rhino panels get distorted after an unexpected error from the One Click LCA plug-in

  • Click on the Gear beside the Rhino panels
  • Deactivate the plug-in of One Click LCA

 

When I click to Refresh Results in Rhino plugin, the following error messages popup:

  • Error converting to material: Index was out of range. Must be non-negative and less than the size of the collection. (Parameter ‘index’)

  • Error getting materials from tree: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Solution: This problem occurs when the resource name is left unassigned in the Materials tab. Specifically, if a user begins typing in the search field but doesn’t select a resource from the list, the field can be populated with random characters, which then causes errors.


Rhino viewport turns black after loading a heavy model

  • Check that you are using the plug-in version 1.2.2 or later
  • You should see a message box when opening the model
  • Click on “No” to avoid refreshing the material quantities, which is the time-consuming process that keeps the Rhino viewport black
  • The refresh process is then either manually executed by the user through the “Refresh” button or automatically carried out when running the LCA calculation

No results were retrieved for a certain material for the LCA calculation in Rhino

This message is related to the fact that the quantity of a certain material was set as 0. The user should check that input. If no results can be retrieved for any material, the complete LCA calculation is aborted and no results at all are retrieved to avoid misleading information.

Material mapping is not possible for the LCA calculation in Rhino

The server returns the following material mapping error:

The easiest solution is simply to select an alternative material.

The following approach is however recommended:

  • Write an email to the support team so they know about this material mapping error
  • Click on “LCA on Cloud” and once a warning for the unmapped materials pops up, specify the mappings for these conflicting materials. Once the import process on the website is finished, it is the possible to click on “refresh results” in the plug-in and the results are available and they correspond to the material manually mapped on the website.

Troubleshooting guide for the Grasshopper plug-in of One Click LCA

Error while loading Grasshopper

  • Update Rhino (in Rhino: Help -> Check for Updates -> Check Now)
  • Try the installation again

The Grasshopper plug-in not showing up after the manual install

  • Go to the location of the plugin files
  • Right-click into the .gha file
  • Select 'Properties'
  • Click on the checkbox “unlock”

The Grasshopper plug-in not showing in Rhino 8 after installation

Rhino 8 uses .NET Core by default.

On Windows, some older plug-ins will not run when .NET Core is active, and requires the legacy .NET Framework, instead.

  • Start Rhino for Windows
  • Type the command SetDotNetRuntime
  • Select the Runtime option
  • Set the NETCore option

  • Close Rhino
  • Open Rhino again and launch the Grasshopper plug-in

Error regarding ultra-paranoid mode after dropping the first component of One Click LCA into the canvas

This error is produced because the Rhino6 version of the plug-in is being loaded into Rhino 7 or vice-versa.

 

The Grasshopper plug-in does not show up in Rhino inside Revit

Go to Revit and check that the One Click LCA plug-in is not installed. Unfortunately, both assemblies cannot co-exist.
