These datapoints are often used for different purposes, like secondary materials, secondary fuels, different energy datasets or direct emission datasets. The key point is that these datapoints are often populating just specific impact categories, or not populating any, and can be used for energy and mass balance.
Secondary materials - this datapoint shall be used to report the use of the secondary materials, mainly when it’s not covered in the datapoint that’s already used or as dummy data when recycled materials are modeled.
Secondary fuels – these datapoints represent different types of the secondary fuels with their typical high calorific values. Such datapoints are specific, as they contribute just to certain impact categories:
Materials for re-use - this datapoint is meant to be used to describe the amount of output flow generated to the specific end of life. It has no environmental impacts that should be added separately according to the system boundaries and PCR rules. The end-of-life flow type must be chosen from the output mass type section and then it will be reported in the corresponding results section for Output flows.
PER and PENR – Use of renewable and non-renewable primary energy as energy or as materials. Such datapoints are used for energy balance and populates corresponding categories in the results section.
Plastics Europe – these datapoints are a conversion of Plastics Europe's inventory into EN15804+A2 compliant indicators. Contains very specific datapoints for plastic-based materials.
Electricity and Heat – Country-specific electricity datapoints and Residual mix datapoints, as well as District heating datapoints from International Energy Agency (IEA). To be used per recommendation of the program operator, often as 2nd choice if there are no specific electricity or heating datapoints available.
Direct emissions datapoints – are populating impact categories related just with the specific chemical that is emitted. In the case of the biogenic carbon dioxide, choosing this datapoint will populate just the GWP biogenic category in the result section and it is commonly used for biogenic carbon mass balance.
