Site Designer is a simplified carbon footprint tool for site selection decisions. The tool considers the transport impacts, available energy supplies, and required earthworks.
Life-Cycle & Results Scope
The calculation includes the life cycle modules of A1-A5, B6 and B8.
The displayed results include Global Warming Potential (kg CO2e) and Global Warming Potential, LULUC (kg CO2e)
Data Scope
The calculation tool allows for various operational transport and early phase energy and construction scenarios to be used to calculate emissions.
Assessment Scope
The global carbon tool does not have a specified minimum scope.
Operational transport
This query is used to calculate the emissions from operational transport related to your site. Transportation varies with the geographical area, for example, public transport, walking and cycling in cities is more common than in sparsely populated areas. Travel related to employment in the centre of large cities is less common by car than shopping trips and other trips from residential property.
Values for this query can either be added manually based on your specific scenario, or you can also use the scenarios available in One Click LCA. To use available scenarios just select from the building typology and regional transport modes options and click 'Load transport modes' to populate the other queries with the scenario values.
Early phase energy scenarios
Within this query, we are calculating the operational energy impacts expected for our site. The energy use is multiplied by the 'Calculation period' and 'Building area' and other parameters should be saved before loading energy scenarios based on the building type and energy profile selection.
Early phases construction scenarios
Within this query, we can evaluate impacts relating to land-use change, geotechnical conditions and construction choices. 'Land use change' can be selected based on the available scenarios, and within the 'Geotechnical conditions' section, you should select the foundation conditions based on the soil type on-site.
'Constructions and related materials' allow you to represent a reference building based on either specific regional scenarios or Carbon Heroes Benchmark scenarios based on other projects from One Click LCA. This should be input for the size of your building based on the Gross Floor Area.
Building area
Input the building area (Gross Internal Floor Area) of the building. This should exclude parking and vehicle circulation areas but include basements.
Calculation period
The service life of the building should be defined here.
