How Do I Model Electricity?

The electricity data point(s) will depend on the source of the electricity. If the source is standard grid electricity, or the source is unknown, you can use a country-specific "Market for electricity" data point, e.g., Market for electricity, medium voltage (Reference product: electricity, medium voltage ).

For The International EPD System, the residual electricity mix if it is available (Europe only) should be used:

When the source of the electricity is known, a data point for that exact source should be used. For example, if the source is hydro power, you may use the following resource: Electricity production, hydro, run-of-river (Reference product:  electricity, high voltage ). If the source is wind, then perhaps you will use: Electricity production, wind, 1-3mw turbine, onshore (Reference product:  electricity, high voltage ).

If the energy provided is a mix, then you would need to choose multiple data points allocated according to the share from each source:

When a source other than grid electricity is modelled, for example renewable electricity, proof of this is required for the EPD. This can be a certificate of origin, contract, invoice, etc. that confirms the period and the source(s).
