Data & Database availability in different calculation tools

One Click LCA’s database contains over 100.000 datapoints, yet not all of them are available with every calculation tool, since depending on the requirements and project location, different data will be available. For instance, with the LCA for LEED – North America tool, the dataset only contains EPDs and generic datapoints characterized using the TRACI methodology. Table 1 below provides a list of the most commonly used tools and the datasets included in each.

CML & TRACI Definitions

Succinctly defined, CML is an impact assessment methodology required by the European EN 15978 and EN 15804 standards. Similarly, TRACI is an environmental impact assessment methodology developed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and is being used primarily in the North American markets, i.e., the United States and Canada. 
If a certification scheme, regulation etc., requires compliance with the EN standards, then CML data has to be used. On the other hand, for LEED (NA) certification and wherever it is explicitly mentioned, the requirement is to use TRACI data and as such the corresponding datapoints are provided. It is not possible to “mix” CML and TRACI data together since the end results are being calculated differently.
