The purpose of the LEED v4 BD +C Building Product Disclosure and Optimization (BDPO) - Environmental Product Declarations is to encourage the use of products and materials for which life-cycle information is available and that have environmentally, economically, and socially preferable life-cycle impacts. This is also intended to reward project teams for selecting products from manufacturers who have verified improved environmental life-cycle impacts. You can earn a maximum of two credits.
Option 1: Environmental Product Declaration
Use at least 20 different permanently installed products sourced from at least 5 different manufacturers. For Exemplary Performance: Source at least 40 qualifying products from five manufacturers.
Weighting:
- Product-specific Type III EPD = 1 product
- Industry-wide Type III EPD = 0,5 product
- Critically reviewed LCA according to ISO 14044 = 0,25 product
Option 2: Multi-Attribute Optimization
Use products that comply with one of the criteria below for 50%, by cost, of the total value of permanently installed products in the project. For Exemplary Performance: Purchase 75%, by cost, of permanently installed building products that meet the required attributes.
Category | Requirements | Weighting |
Third-party certified products that demonstrate impact reduction below industry average in at least three categories |
|
Value at 100% by cost |
Additional requirements | Products sourced (extracted, manufactured, purchased) within 100 miles (160 km) of the project site | Value at 200% by cost |
This credit applies to all EPDs used across your building and reported in your LCA.
When completing your LCA in any of the LEED tools, check off the EPD box for each material where you will be using the same material as the EPD as shown below:
These will then be listed on your results page under the results summary for easy collection to check if you have met the requirements for BPDO credits.
