Make sure you have the things listed below before starting:
- Autodesk® Navisworks Manage® 2025.
- One Click LCA account and license with Business features or higher to be able to import data.
How do you set up the Autodesk® Navisworks Manage® integration?
Please follow the steps below to install the integration.
How can I access the integration?
You can download the BETA version of the integration directly from the bottom of this page. Please note that this is a testing version and may include certain limitations. Help us improve by sharing your feedback at support@oneclicklca.com.
How do I install it?
Open the installer to begin. The plugin installs automatically with no additional settings required. The plugin is digitally signed by One Click LCA, however, your operating system may ask you to confirm if you wish to proceed with the installation. In such a case, choose Allow / Yes, as applicable.
How to use the Autodesk®Navisworks Manage®Integration?
This integration supports Navisworks federated multi-model projects, including various disciplines such as Architecture, Structure, HVAC, Plumbing, Mechanical, Electrical, and more.
The integration allows you to export the Bill of Materials (BoM) from Autodesk® Navisworks Manage® to the One Click LCA platform. The BoM is generated using the "Quantification" feature for material takeoffs within Navisworks. Please follow the guidance below for the detailed export instructions.
One Click LCA Autodesk®Navisworks Manage®Integration
After installing the integration, open Autodesk® Navisworks Manage®. You will see a new tab labeled “One Click LCA”.
Preparing for export: Using the Navisworks Quantification.
Before exporting to One Click LCA platform, use the Navisworks "Quantification" feature to create the Bill of Materials (BoM). Follow these steps:
1. Locate the "Quantification" feature under the "Home" tab in Navisworks.
2. In the "Quantification Workbook" tab, click "Project Setup" to define your project settings. You can also use any pre-existing quantifications and export them directly.
3. Select a Catalog relevant to your quantification. The catalog structure information will be exported to the One Click LCA platform. You can use:
- pre-set catalogs in Navisworks.
- your organisation catalogs.
- the pre-set One Click LCA catalog, designed to align with One Click LCA classes, is available for download at the bottom of the page. Please note that using this catalog does not automatically assign "CLASS" information on the One Click LCA platform when used with the integration BETA version. It serves purely as a reference tool.
- alternatively, you can choose not to use any catalog, which will base the classification on the 3D model.
4. Select units.
5. Select takeoff properties and finish.
6. You Quantification feature is set up.
Adding model data to the Navisworks Quantification
To add model objects to the "Quantification", simply drag your selection or search set into the relevant Quantification Workbook's Items. You can also right-click on elements and add them using the drop-down menu.
Please note that assigning elements to a catalog is optional. You can add the entire model to the "Quantification" without any additional categorisation.
In the "Quantification" feature, you can view details of the added elements, such as their Name, Area, Volume, and Count.
Defining units for exported data
When importing data to the One Click LCA platform, it is essential to specify the main quantity type for each entry. By default, the system prioritizes quantities in the following order: PrimaryQuantity, then Volume, Area, and Count. Since the PrimaryQuantity is not automatically specified in the Navisworks "Quantification" feature, Volume is used as the default.
To set the PrimaryQuantity based on the Navisworks "Quantification" tool, you can use one of the following values:
=ModelVolume for Volume
=ModelArea for Area
=ModelLength for Length
=1 for Count
You can view the corresponding name of each quantity by clicking the header of the respective column.
Exporting the Bill of Materials to One Click LCA platform
Once objects from the models are added to the "Quantification" you can export the data to the One Click LCA platform for the Life Cycle assessment.
To export the Bill of Materials (BoM) to the One Click LCA platform, click the “LCA in Cloud” button. This will initiate the standard import process. For more information about the import process, please visit the One Click LCA help centre here.
Known limitations
Autodesk® Navisworks Manage® limitations when reading composite elements from Revit based files
Due to limitations in Autodesk® Navisworks Manage®'s "Quantification" feature, layers and layers quantities within composite elements from Revit-based .NWC models are not extracted in the quantification process. As a result, these layers and their quantities will not appear in the Bill of Materials exported to the One Click LCA platform.
To enable Navisworks to recognize composite element layers, these elements need to be divided into parts in Revit before importing them into Navisworks. Please note this process may affect the Revit model. You should create a backup copy of Revit model prior to dividing elements into parts.
The Autodesk® Navisworks Manage® "Quantification" tool reads overall element quantities. For example, a cavity wall consisting of render, blockwork, air, and brickwork will be treated as a single item, exporting only its total area or volume.
When working with composite elements like this on the One Click LCA platform, it is recommended to:
- Use environmental profiles that best match the multi-layered element structure, or
- Create private constructions within the One Click LCA platform to accurately reflect the composite layers.
Autodesk® Navisworks Manage® limitations in reading quantity information from models
Autodesk® Navisworks Manage®'s "Quantification" feature has limitations when reading quantity information from models, as it depends on the quality and completeness of the exported data. Some models may only provide partial data, such as the number of units for certain elements, without full quantity details.
Additionally, certain quantities may require manual mapping (using mapping feature in the "Quantification" feature) from the model file properties to Navisworks properties to ensure they are correctly recognized during the quantification process.
For the best results, it is recommended to use Revit models exported in the .nwc format. Using other formats may result in varying availability of quantity information.
